The performance, "The Return of Norwid" (Powrót Norwida) by Kazimierz Braun, based on the texts of one of the greatest poets of the 19th century, Cyprian Kamil Norwid, who — for many Poles — became a symbol of the fate of an emigrant, will be presented on the stage of the New York Theater Row on Broadway as part of the international festival United Solo.
The role of the outstanding Polish poet will be played by an excellent Polish actor and director, Marek Probosz. The American premiere of the play "The Return of Norwid" directed by Marek Probosz will take place on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 3.30 p.m.
Address:
THEATER ROW
410 West 42nd Street
New York City, NY
Marek Probosz — actor, lecturer, director — currently lives in California, USA. As he himself says: "he chose freedom" when, in 1987, he was invited to Hollywood for 21 days and decided to stay there. At that time, it was not yet certain that the communist system in the so-called "Eastern Bloc" will eventually collapse.
Marek Probosz comes from Silesia in Poland. He was born in 1959 in Żory. From childhood, he was interested in theater and film. In 1983 he graduated from the Acting Department of the PWSFTviT in Łódź. During 30 years of his professional career, he has starred in over 60 films in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, France and Italy. He was an actor and director in many theaters in Europe and the United States.
Marek Probosz is a laureate of many prestigious awards. Films with his participation won first prizes and awards at world-class festivals in Cannes, Venice, San Sebastian and Karlovy Vary.
In 1993, this outstanding actor also graduated from the film directing department at The American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Currently, he is also a lecturer at Williams College, educating next generations of actors.
Marek Probosz earned great respect among the Polish American community with the role of Captain Witold Pilecki in a monodrama, which he also directed. In 2018, this role brought him the award for the best documentary performance out of 130 performances from around the world, from 6 continents, at the world's largest single-actor theater festival — UNITED SOLO at Theater ROW on Broadway.
In 2022, the next edition of this festival will take place between October 4 and November 20. More information can be found at www.unitedsolo.org.
The monodrama: "The Return of Norwid" is a minimalist, contemporary dialogue between an actor and a pianist based on real events, in which Norwid and his texts evoke deep emotions and one is moved by the poet's longing for his homeland. As Cyprian Kamil Norwid himself said: “The homeland is a great, collective duty. And independence generates the energy of work." Will Marek Probosz manage to repeat the success from 2018? We wish him this with all our hearts.
