Professor of Slavic Studies at Rice University (Houston), author of the book «Troubadours of the Empire. Russian Literature and Colonialism» (2000). Her books and articles are translated into Polish, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Russian, Italian, Croatian, Czech, Hungarian and Chinese. The work «Understanding Russia. Holy Madness in Russian Culture» was translated into Chinese and published in Hong Kong in 1995, in Beijing in 1998, and in 2015. Winner of the award of the Association of Polish Writers Abroad for the promotion of Polish culture and literature in the world (2015).
